Upon meeting Serah Farron, Lightning Farron's sister, Noel Kreiss comes off as a confident young man, adorning shoulder-length brown hair and blue eyes. Noel is cocky, cheerful, confident but soft-spoken. He is a self-sufficient hunter.
He was the last human in the world in the distant future. By praying and hoping, he saught the Goddess Etro. He wanted a chance to make things right - to fulfil his role as a "Guardian", even without someone to protect.
There - he meets Lightning in Valhalla. She grants him a chance - opening a time gate to the past, where Serah is. Where the journey begins - where he can change the past and the future.
Due to the effects of a time paradox, Noel suffers from amnesia. Coming from a future where humanity is almost extinct, he has some trouble with his speech, and thus tends to speak in a straightforward manner. He is excited to explore new places and meet new people and is defined by his determination to protect others. He is assertive and remains calm and collected when facing people with provoked anger, such as the members of NORA. Noel stands by his beliefs and morals, and as a remnant from his upbringing, values life and is reluctant to hurt or kill others unless necessary. This initially makes him dislike Snow Villiers for his brash personality and having his head in the clouds believing in self-sacrifice.
After traveling through time and battling chaos, closing paradoxes and changing the possible futures - Noel finds himself back in Valhalla. Defenseless without Lightning, and taken by Caius Ballad, the True Guardian to Yeul, deathless, who traveled through time his own way. By aging after many millennia of being alive for no reasoning except protecting every Yeul that dies prematurely, being reborn only to see him again. The fate of the future and Valhalla - frozen in time - was in the hands of Noel and Serah, and Caius can only be killed by the Next Guardian. However, Noel's values keep him from committing the sin. Caius sees this as a weakness and grips Noel's wrist to finish it; stabbing himself with Noel's sword by guiding it to his chest.
The Chaos releases. Valhalla falls, and a gate opens to the New Cocoon. Serah and Noel fall - caught.
But things change. People change. The chaos follows the tight-knit duo. And Serah - obtaining the Blessing of Etro's Visions of the future, sees all of the changes that the two have caused. All at once. It seeps her life rapidly, and it kills her.
After losing both Yeul and Serah, his heart fell into Chaos and almost succumbed. The only reason he did not completely fall to the dark force was due to a strand of hope. A hope of a future with Yeul. All he needed to do was kill the "Savior".
All he needed to do was kill Lightning.
Noel's attitude towards the value of life has changed. He no longer feels anyone's death adds to his already-burdened conscience, though his attitude of killing only when necessary remains in his work as a vigilante. Noel is more serious, determined, and aggressive. Everyone is ageless. Everyone cannot die unless killed, unless diseased. Age holds no factor on life.
Five hundred years. Five hundred years of being alive with no purpose - at the End of the World. Five hundred years after committing the ultimate sin of man; the one time he has killed. The one time he has murdered. And it caused the end of the world. Guilt twists his mind.
His determination and aggression were on par with Lightning's power of the Blessing of Etro as the Savior, and allowed him to fight evenly with her, and even put up a real fight. Lightning, however, partially returns him to his old self after helping him let go of his guilt.
Noel fights alongside Lightning at the Thirteenth day, the day of the Apocolypse, and stays behind to hold off Bhunivelze - "God's" - devouts and monsters while Lightning rushes to stop the Soulsong, a ritual that would obliterate the dead, including Serah's soul. Lightning succeeds, but Noel and the others are captured by Bhunivelze with their souls sealed in his body. Lightning travels to Cosmogenesis to face Bhunivelze and frees Noel and the other souls and they work together to defeat Bhunivelze.
As the Apocalypse begins, Noel finds Yeul and her past lives who have agreed to remain in the forming unseen realm to fill the late Etro's position in maintaining the cycle of reincarnation and thus the stability of the new world. Noel protests to their choice, and Caius, still alive due to having become a manifestation of Chaos itself, asks if he would rather take Etro's place than let Yeul be bound to another fate. When Noel is willing to take the burden, Caius tosses him away from the forming black hole as Nova Chrysalia collapses, alongside Yeul's final incarnation from Noel's time, ultimately fulfilling the promise she had made to him as they depart for the new world together.

Eternal Life, the Curse of Bhunivelze: Unable to die of age.
Strength, Lifting - Mountain: He is able to launch Mountain-like animals into the air with little effort.
Striking Strength - Cosmic: He is able to damage Battle-Gods and defeat them.
Durability, Tanking: Under Sentinel, he can easily take attacks from Battle-Gods and continue fighting.
Stamina: Very High. Deplenishes, and replenishes depending on the flow of battle.
Speed: He is a blur in battle, able to keep up with Battle-Gods.
Range - Dual Swords: Extended Melee Range.
Range - Magic: Very Long Range.
PARADIGM SHIFT: The ability to change the flow of battle in a fly.
ADJUSTED STOMACH: Able to drink powerful potions and consume items.
COMMANDO:
( A paradigm role form that enhances Melee attacks and keeps enemies on their back foot. )
STRIKE: Attacks at his own will.
Adrenaline: A passive ability that boosts Noel's attack potency for as long as he remains in peak form. Noel loses the rush after taking too much damage.
Blitz: Noel whips her weapon around to strike foes across a wide area and catch those attempting to run away.
Launch: Attack and launch a staggered target into the air, allowing attacks while they are unbalanced and helpless.
Powerchain: He takes advantage of the target's loss of stamina and musters up power to overwhelm them with attacks.
Jeopardize: His attacks become much more firm and precise, forcing the enemy to stagger and become disoriented.
Blindside: His attacks are swift against people destracted.
Lifesiphon: Noel is able to drain the stamina of his foes with each attack, allowing him to dish out rapid blows while his foes begin to tire and slow down.
Area Sweep: Inflict physical damage on the target and nearby foes and knock them backward.
+ IMPERAL STRIKE: A strike that embues confusion and neutralizes the target's resistance to elements.
+ SLOW STRIKE: An attack that is aimed towards the vitals, slowing the target down through magic and force. They will feel more fatigued and sluggish.
Ruin/Ruina/Ruinga: Noel unleashes powerful bursts of unaspected energy to deal damage to nearby enemies.
Scourge/Smite: Noel's damage is quintupled while attacking foes who are on the verge of recovering from his initial attacks and staggered.
Deathblow: A mighty attack to finish an exhausted enemy.
Meteor Javelin: His signature attack, Noel leaps high into the air, materializing four spears which he throws at the enemy with great force.
+ BIG BANG: Meteor Javelin's magical finisher embued with ruin and gravity that expands and destroys anything in its path.
+ ATB CHARGE: Replenishes his energy in a flash and applies "VIGILANCE"; allowing his attacks to follow through without being staggered.
+ BLESSING OF SHADOWS/CHIMES OF DARKNESS: Noel bestows Enaero, Haste, and Shell on himself; allowing all of his attacks to contain a wind element, he becomes much more swift, and he is much more resistant to magic.
RAVAGER:
( A paradigm role form that enhances the user's Magic to overwhelm the enemy to a stagger. )
Fire/Fira/Firaga: Burn bright - Fire aspected attacks that progressively get stronger, and become much wider. The heat is more than enough to scar and melt; lowering the enemy's defenses to more flame attacks.
Blizzard/Blizzara/Blizzaga: A permafrost - Ice aspected attacks that progressively get stronger, and become much wider and more detrimental to those that it hits - slowing them and disorienting, as well as able to shatter their defenses to ice attacks.
Aero/Aeroa/Aeroga: An endless gale - wind aspected attacks that progressively get more violent and much wider. The attacks disorient and launch the enemies into the air, deeming them unbalanced. The winds chip at the defenses to wind attacks.
Thunder/Thundara/Thundaga: The skies roar - lightning aspected attacks that progressively get much wider and much more powerful. The attacks shock the enemies and paralyze the enemies, cracking the defenses to further lightning attacks.
Flamestrike: Noel channels the flame into his sword with a grace of his hand and attacks, the strike being both physical and magical.
Froststrike: Noel channels a chilling frost into his sword with a grace of his hand and strikes. The attack is deemed both physical and magical.
Galestrike: Noel grasps the winds and thrusts it into his blades. Swiftly, he launches himself at the enemy. The attack is seen as both physical and magical.
Sparkstrike: Noel commands down the lightning with a raise of his blades, coated in sparks. He speeds towards the enemy and attacks. The attack is seen as both physical and magical.
+ GALE FANG: Four thrusts with his lance; violent and ripping - before flipping back and thrusting his sword forward, aspected with wind and knocking the target backward violently.
+ STORMSTRIKE: Three swift strikes that utilize both wind and lightning aspected attacks.
+ HURRICANE SLASH: Noel channels the rare element of pure water - and combines it with the violence of wind. He strikes circularly, and channels a hurricane-like attack, knocking back everybody in the vicinity and tearing through armor.
Overwhelm: Attacks one individual and a single individual to the point of breaking.
Fearsiphon: Noel seeps the disorientation and confusion from staggered enemies and uses it as energy to attack further.
Vigor: So long as he is healthy, his attacks are firm and relentless.
SENTINEL:
( A paradigm role form that enhances the user's defenses and resistances to protect allies. )
Provoke: Noel shouts and entices enemies to attack HIM. This ability slips unknowingly to the conscious of the enemy, releasing reckless anger in their minds.
Steelguard: A firm guard. His defenses bolster forward - becoming only stronger the more he is attacked.
Mediguard: A breathing guard. His defense is firm, and his body revitalizes slowly, healing wounds through sheer determination to move forward.
Element Guard: A guard that targets the elements - magic resistance rising tenfold.
Entrench: His feet stay planted firm against the ground, taking all attacks. He is unmoving, charging a counterattack. Then, he strikes firmly.
Vendetta: Noel plants firmly against the ground, unrelenting. He takes all attacks against him and uses that pain as energy to strike back twice as powerful.
Fringeward: His taking of attacks reduces the damage any allies may take.
Deathward: Noel makes a last stand - increasing his defenses even further when exhausted.
Reprive: Noel's determination shines through. When an attack would normally knock him out or kill him - he bounces back at the very brink of exhaustion, continuing to stand firmly.
SABOTOUR:
( A paradigm role form that focuses on curses and disorienting the enemy. )
Deprotect/Deprotega: A spell that reduces the target's resistance to physical attacks.
Deshell/Deshellga: A spell that reduces the target's resistance to magic.
Imperil/Imperilga: A spell that reduces the target's elemental resistances.
Poison/Poisonga: A spell that causes sickness, damaging the enemy from the inside.
Despel/Despelga: A spell that counters enhancements, removing them from the enemy.
Wound/Woundga: A spell that wounds the enemy, gradually reducing the peak of their performance throughout the battle. Even if they were to heal, they would not be able to heal past these magical wounds.
Jinx: The targets curses last long.
SYNERGIST:
( A paradigm role form that focuses on blessings and enhancing one's self or allies. )
Protect/Protectga: Enhances physical resistances.
Shell/Shellga: Enhances magical resistances.
Veil/Veilga: Enhances ailment resistances.
Vigilance/Vigilaga: Decrease the odds of being interrupted during attacks - allowing the attacker to follow through even if struck, and decreases "wounding".
Boon: Blessings last long.
MEDIC:
( A paradigm role form that focuses on using magics to heal one's self and allies. )
Cure: Noel brings forth magic to heal and restore vigor.
Cura: Noel brings forth magic to heal himself and allies around him.
Curasa: A more accurate cure - based on damage taken, rather than a set amount. Either heals little, or a lot.
Curaja: A more accurate Cura - based on damage taken for everyone around him rather than a set amount. Either heals little or a lot.
Esuna: Removes detriments.
Esunada: Removes detriments to allies around him.
Raise: Noel channels forbidden magics, and raises his ally from the brink of death, giving them energy to fight again.
